Aspect Capital are actively recruiting for their summer 2026 Research Internship programme and we are delighted to be partnering with them to offer you these fantastic opportunities! Ideally internships will start in early July and last for 12 weeks, but Aspect Capital can offer some flexibility on dates and duration but would expect the internship to last no less than 10 weeks.

Aspect Capital is an award-winning systematic hedge fund based in London that manages over $8 billon of client assets, where technology is an integral part of our business.

We’re looking for a technically minded intern to join our execution research team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who enjoys diving deep into data and market mechanics to uncover how markets really work.

This is a hands-on, research-driven role for someone who wants to go beyond surface-level analysis and build a deep, data-driven understanding of how markets behave. You’ll be encouraged to explore, experiment, and contribute meaningfully to our execution stack - gaining exposure to real-world trading infrastructure and decision-making.

      Your role:

      • Build a strong understanding of trade flow within a systematic trading environment - from signal generation to order routing and execution.
      • Explore market microstructure and tick-level data to uncover patterns in order flow, liquidity, and slippage across venues and instruments.
      • Investigate execution dynamics to identify inefficiencies and inform the design of smarter trading algorithms.
      • Develop research tools and infrastructure to support execution signal development and performance analysis.
      • Collaborate with researchers and developers to translate insights into production-ready components.
      • Learn how execution fits into the broader lifecycle of systematic trading, including portfolio construction, risk management, and post-trade analysis.
      • Complete and present a research project that encapsulates the above.

To be eligible for an internship with us, you must fulfil the following criteria:

      • You must have completed your second year working towards a numerate degree or PhD.
      • You must be planning on being in full time education for the 2026 academic year.

      You will need:

      • Strong programming and data analysis skills (Python preferred), with experience in libraries such as pandas, NumPy, and SciPy.
      • Comfort working with large datasets and databases (SQL, time-series databases).
      • Familiarity with software engineering tools and practices: Git, testing frameworks, and clean code principles.
      • Solid computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, performance optimization).
      • Self-motivation, enthusiasm, attention to detail and the ability to work effectively alone and collaboratively.
      • Bonus: exposure to trading systems, market structure, or financial data. Experience with machine learning, distributed computing, or low-latency systems.

If this sounds of interest then we’d love to hear from you, please upload your CV and either attach a covering letter and your availability to work in 2026.
