About Goldman Sachs

The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. is a leading global investment banking, securities and investment management firm that provides a wide range of financial services to a substantial and diversified client base that includes corporations, financial institutions, governments and individuals. Founded in 1869, the firm is headquartered in New York and maintains offices in all major financial centres around the world.

About the Summer Analyst Internship Programme

This is a ten-week programme designed to fully immerse you in the day-today activities of one of Goldman Sachs' divisions. The programme starts with a firmwide orientation where you’ll learn about their culture, as well as the benefits and responsibilities of being a member of Goldman Sachs. You will also receive division-specific training designed to help you succeed in your division.

After training, you will receive real responsibilities to give you a sense of what you would be doing, day to day, as a full-time Goldman Sachs employee. Along with fellow interns, you will work alongside leaders within the industry. Successful Summer Analysts may be invited back to join the New Analyst programme in a full time position.

About the Securities Division

The Securities Division enables Goldman Sachs' clients to buy and sell financial products, raise funding and manage risk. They make markets and facilitate client transactions in fixed income, equity, currency and commodity products. In addition, they make markets in and clear client transactions on major stock, options and futures exchanges worldwide.

Through their global sales force, we maintain relationships with their clients, receiving orders and distributing investment research, trading ideas, market information and analysis.

Securities' activities are organized by asset class. Their teams work with the following instruments:

  • Equities teams transact in stocks and other equity-related products, including convertible securities, options and futures. Their work includes financing, securities lending and other services for institutional investors.
  • Fixed incomecurrency and commodities teams transact in a variety of assets, including interest rate products (such as government bonds, treasury bills and other highly liquid instruments), credit products, mortgages, currencies and commodities.

Ideal candidates for the Securities Division are dynamic, quick-thinking self-starters who have a real passion for the markets. The ability to communicate effectively and build strong relationships with clients and colleagues from a diversity of backgrounds and experiences is crucial. Those who succeed in Securities thrive in the fast-paced, constantly changing environment where no two days are the same.

The Goldman Sachs summer programme begins with one to two weeks of training about the group and the internship process. You’ll then have desk rotations, taking on responsibilities such as creating client solicitation materials, updating client lists, creating transaction proposals, structuring, pricing, marketing, financing and more. The programme includes presentations, panels, and lunches or dinners hosted by senior managers. Students will have the opportunity to participate in small group assignments that involve research, presentations and networking. Participants will also enjoy a day of volunteering with Community TeamWorks as well as a wide array of networking events. There will be a strong mentoring component as well as an opportunity to receive both ongoing informal and formal feedback.
