About the Programme

Bring your passion for problem solving and strategic thinking into the constantly evolving world of financial regulation.

Our Supervision Division offers an overview of every single business providing financial products and services in the UK. This team is vital to protect customers and the integrity of the market by ensuring firms work ethically and to the highest standards. This is a great opportunity to influence the conduct of financial services firms. There are two main subdivisions within Supervision – Retail Supervision and Wholesale Supervision – and as a Supervision graduate you would complete rotations in both areas.

There’s a variety of teams and job roles within Supervision. You could be working with trade bodies and advisers to predict future risk, reviewing and assessing individuals looking to work in our sector, or providing specialist support in areas such as Financial Crime or Client Assets. Either way, you’ll be working with senior stakeholders and have the chance to represent the FCA to external CEOs from a variety of different firms. It’s an unparalleled level of exposure – you’ll be making persuasive arguments and influencing the most senior minds in financial services. 

Naturally numerate you will use your analytical skills to obtain, review, organise and draw appropriate conclusions, often from larger, complex datasets. High attention to detail is vital to produce reports and present arguments in a logical and methodical way. You will also develop your communication and leadership skills in group projects and through your varied rotations.

What we look for

Our staff have diverse backgrounds, and while no specific degree stands out as being essential, it would be beneficial to have a degree in a quantitative subject. You’ll learn a lot on the job, so we don’t expect you to have a detailed regulatory knowledge, however, you should have an interest in governance. You’ll also need to be strategically minded, great at building strong relationships at all levels and be able to influence and persuade. 

Learning & Development

As a graduate in Supervision you’ll complete the training pathway through our training Academy, which will equip you with all the skills you need. You could also complete your CFA and become a Financial Services Professional level 6.

Candidates apply through EmployAbility but each applicant is assessed against the FCA's core competencies and selected through the FCA's recruitment process. Successful candidates are hired directly on to the Graduate Programme and participate in every aspect of it.
