University of Reading Spring Careers & Placements Fair

It’s a chance to speak to employers and see what they are looking for and explore a variety of opportunities. Exhibitors at this event are not only offering graduate vacancies, but also placements and summer internships, work experience and volunteering opportunities at home and overseas. Members of the Careers Advisory Service will also be on hand to answer any queries you may have.

Don’t miss out as this is the last chance to attend such an event until the Autumn term! And if you are a finalist it is your last chance to meet employers on campus before graduation.

EmployAbility Skills Workshop (Interviews and Assessment Centres)

EmployAbility is the not-for-profit organisation dedicated to assisting people with disabilities into employment and working with employers seeking to become more ‘disability inclusive’.

Our highly experienced team will be delivering a skills workshop to provide you with essential advice and guidance on interview and assessment centre skills. In this workshop we will cover:
• top tips for success
• advice on answering questions
• tips for group activities
• an insight into what employers are looking for.

We will also provide information on opportunities including; offering internship, work experience and graduate programme opportunities with top employers from within:
• investment banking
• legal
• chemicals
• banking
• media
• public and other sectors

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we can no longer hold this workshop on the 19th of January 2011 as planned. The workshop will still be taking place at a later date, so please do sign up for it and we will be in touch as soon as the date is confirmed.

Lawyers with Disabilities mini-conference 27th October 2010

So you want to be a solicitor?

The Lawyers with Disabilities Division (LDD) has developed this one day mini-conference aimed at law students with disabilities who are considering a career as a solicitor.

The programme will address how to get started, including explaining the recruitment policies of a City Law firm, work-based learning, and advice on declaring a disability. There will be a session on CV writing and the application process as well as interview techniques. This will be followed by a mock interview. A panel will discuss their perspective on careers in private practice, local government, industry and becoming an academic. You will also hear about access to work. Finally the Judicial Appointments Commission will give an overview of planning a career in the judiciary.
