Exciting news at EmployAbility: Start-Up Stars 2009

The ninth annual HSBC Start-Up Stars awards are for start-up businesses all over the UK with the aim of celebrating the initiative and dedication of today’s entrepreneurs.

The Start-Up Stars awards national finalists were announced on Tuesday, 6th October. EmployAbility is one of the Top Ten finalists. And we’re thrilled!

EmployAbility is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to assisting disabled people into employment and enabling leading employers to benefit from this untapped pool of talent.

The inspiration behind the company was to provide a specialist consultancy service that enabled disabled people to receive a fair and equitable opportunity to obtain and retain employment which utilises their abilities.

EmployAbility works mainly with:

> disabled university students and graduates to ease the transition from education into employment,

> employers seeking to become more 'disability inclusive'. The company maintains strong links with universities across the country as well as working with other disability organisations.

Whilst most disability services are aimed at children or adults who do not reach higher levels of education, at EmployAbility we recognise the need for a service specifically tailored to the disabled graduate market, providing much-needed support and advice to both students and prospective employers.

Our biggest challenge is the perception that disabled people are unable to perform work tasks effectively or fit into a particular employment culture. Our role is therefore to educate companies, and sometimes disabled people themselves, that they can perform in the workplace as effectively as non-disabled personnel

Wish us luck in the awards, and contact us to find out more about how we can help you or your business.
