About the FSA
The FSA regulate the UK’s financial services industry and deliver benefits to consumers and firms alike. On the one hand, they aim to get a fair deal for everyone in their financial affairs. On the other, they are committed to maintaining London’s status as a world-leading international financial centre. Whatever they are doing, you can be sure they do it to the best of their abilities – so where better to experience the full spectrum of finance?
The Summer Internship Programme
You can only learn so much in a lecture. There’s no substitute for being at the heart of the action, experiencing the responsibility, complexity and buzz of the FSA and the industry it regulates. The exposure and practical experience you will gain will see your knowledge grow and grow over the course of FSA’s 10-week Summer Internship Programme, providing an invaluable platform for your career.
As an intern, you’ll be given similar responsibilities to their graduates, so if you put a lot in, you’ll get plenty out. There are opportunities in a range of areas – you could be involved in the supervision of firms to ensure they are complying with regulatory requirements, the authorisation of firms and individuals to work in the UK, policy development or consumer education. You can also apply specifically for their Legal Internship Programme, which will be particularly attractive if you’re interested in joining their Legal Development Programme as a graduate.
The majority of interns join FSA’s Canary Wharf office in London although they also offer some positions at their Edinburgh office.
Requirements
In addition to a 2.1 in any subject, 300 UCAS tariff points and the unrestricted right to work in the UK, you’ll need to be a decisive, results-driven, highly analytical team player with excellent people skills and initiative.
However, if there are extenuating circumstances which may have affected your grades, please state this clearly on the form and/ or contact EmployAbility for further information.
