The Ernst & Young ‘EmployAbility’ Summer Internship Programme 2008 gives students with disabilities the opportunity to obtain invaluable work experience and to gain an insight into one of the largest professional services firms in the UK.
EmployAbility is the not-for-profit organisation that facilitates and manages the selection and recruitment for disability inclusive employers seeking to attract and recruit disabled people onto internships, graduate programmes and other permanent roles.
The Ernst & Young Summer Internship Programme is available to penultimate year students and is a way for you to find out more about the company, and for Ernst & Young to find out more about you. It involves you working in a real job, with high expectations and tough demands.
Graduate jobs are offered to the students who thrive on the programme, so this is an exceptional opportunity to move ahead in your career before you’ve left university. Naturally, competition for places on the programme is intense, and Ernst & Young are particularly interested in applications from people who can demonstrate an understanding of, and an interest in, their business.
What Does It Involve?
Preparation: Your first week will be dedicated to training. Ernst & Young will equip you with the basic skills you’ll need to be successful on the internship programme and will rapidly develop your capabilities through exercises – including talks and team-building sessions. You’ll then be out in the business, handling similar work to one of their first-year graduates.
Team Orientation: Working as part of a team, you’ll have exposure to a variety of clients and industry sectors. This will give you an insight into the business and a good understanding of life at Ernst & Young.
Learn by example: As well as client work, you’ll be given the opportunity to shadow a partner to give you a real idea of where your ambitions can take you. Ernst & Young are looking to recruit future leaders through the programme, so this is a real opportunity to show what you’re made of.
Feedback: You’ll also receive regular feedback on your performance from a counselling manager who will be responsible for your development during your time on the internship and for helping to ensure that the 6-week experience is valuable and challenging.
Relationships: To cement relationships, there’ll be plenty of social events and at the end of the 6 weeks all interns are invited to an end of programme celebration.
When is it?
Internships will mostly be London based, although please contact us at EmployAbility if you have an alternative location preference. There are 2 Summer Internship intakes: 30th June 2008 – 8th August 2008 for Scheme 1 and 4th August 2008 – 12th September 2008 for Scheme 2.
Ernst & Young are unable to accept work permit applications for their 6 week summer scheme. International students with a valid student visa (allowing part time work) are permitted to apply.
