Summer Internship Programme, Global Corporate & Investment Banking (GCIB) Division

At Bank of America Merrill Lynch, they’ll match your drive and ambition to where you can make a real impact.

As one of the world’s largest financial institutions, their global connections allow you to create a career on your own terms.

An internship or placement is your opportunity to gain an insight into working life at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, to network with the company’s employees and to develop your skills. You’ll work alongside employees of all levels and have an opportunity to participate in project work with the potential for measurable impact on our business. By joining Bank of America Merrill Lynch, you’ll also receive the highest level of training and mentoring support.

Running for nine weeks between June and August, a summer internship will give you a thorough introduction to the financial services industry. The programme begins with an induction week covering core skills, and you will be assigned a mentor and a buddy who will help you to make the most of your orientation and training. There will also be plenty of networking opportunities and a speaker series, giving you the chance to meet a range of employees from new starters to seasoned senior executives.

As an intern in the Global Corporate and Investment Banking (GCIB) division, you will have the opportunity to work in one of three areas:

Equity Capital Markets

Equity Capital Markets originates a wide variety of equity solutions for the bank's clients. When a client decides to raise capital in the public or private markets, corporate and investment bankers turn to the Global Capital Markets team. Global Capital Markets partners with the coverage team and advises clients on optimal methods to access capital, whether for acquisitions, general financing or strengthening of balance sheets.

Equity Capital Markets originates, structures, and executes worldwide equity, equity-linked and equity derivatives products on behalf of the firm's global corporate and institutional client base. The equity product suite includes initial public offerings, rights offerings, accelerated placements, convertible bonds, hedging structures, margin loans and structured purchases/disposals.

Global Corporate Banking & Debt Capital Markets

Bank of America Merrill Lynch operates a dual coverage model, with key clients covered globally by both the Corporate Banking and Investment Banking teams. The role of Global Corporate Banking is to manage client relationships and to provide strategic advice across three core pillars:

  • Capital raising (e.g. bonds, loans, acquisition finance, leasing)
  • Risk management (FX, rates, commodities, pensions)
  • Cash management and trade finance

Organised on a geographic basis, the Global Corporate Banking group serves a range of corporate clients across the Americas, EMEA and Asia Pacific. The scope of Global Corporate Banking is broad - it is necessary to work with partners in different product groups across the globe, offering an extremely diverse experience.

As Bank of America Merrill Lynch strives for improved efficiency, Debt Capital Markets has now been combined with Global Corporate Banking to optimise their approach to client coverage. As a result, the role includes more direct exposure to the traditional Debt Capital Markets role, focused on providing strategic advice, structuring and execution on any debt funding initiative (across bonds, hybrid, private placement or loans).

Global Investment Banking

Our Global Investment Banking business focuses on building long-term relationships with more than 3,000 large corporations, financial institutions and financial sponsors, providing a unique breadth of services. With expertise in strategic mergers and acquisitions advisory, and equity capital markets, they offer strong expertise and capitalise on powerful M&A, and equity product knowledge to deliver integrated and innovative financial solutions. We have a leading global franchise with significant presence in the Americas, Europe, Emerging Markets (ex-Asia) and Asia Pacific.
