Further Information

  • Please see below a link to a Google Hangout on Air session created especially to help you make an effective application: In this 30 min Hangout on Air Emea Scholarships session you can find general tips on what Google look for when reviewing applications, answering questions about the application process. The tips were given by a panel of former scholar recipients finalists who currently work at Google and senior judges who sit on the application review committee. View the session by clicking this link.

  • As part of the application you will be expected to write 3 short essays of 400-600 words each on your interest on computer science, about a technical project/research assignment you were involved and on a time you exhibited leadership. It is highly recommended that you use as close to the full allocation of 600 words as possible and try to use specific examples which are supported by evidence. The questions in full and some further guidance can be found here. Please note that the word limit applies to the text entered into the online application form which may not correspond exactly to the word count of other word-processors such as Microsoft Word.

  • For your essay on the technical project/research assignment you can include additional material, such as graphs, diagrams, algorithms, sections of code etc. to support your arguments, but these will need to be saved in individual files which you will upload along with your CV/resume. If you wish to include any such supporting documentation, please reference them in your essay in the appropriate place with the file name written in square brackets, for example [MyGraph1].

  • In order to help you tailor your own CV/resume for the scholarship application we have provided two examples of a resume written by former scholars.
