About the NAO
The National Audit Office is big on the things that matter to you.
We offer an excellent graduate professional training scheme leading to qualification as a Chartered Accountant (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales).
We invest in the development of our staff and provide career development opportunities.
Our work is ‘big hitting’, high quality, varied and worthwhile. It has a real impact on the nation.
We are a modern, independent and successful organisation with high professional standards.
We value and reward ideas, pace and delivery, as well as our people.
We are big enough to deliver a big agenda which makes an impact on the nation, but not so big that you are just another trainee or a number. Who you are, what you bring, and the contribution you make does matter.
About the graduate chartered accountancy scheme
You will be challenged from day one – but you will also be well supported all the way. Our value for money reports, for example, lead to positive changes in the way central government delivers public services and does business. Our financial audit work involves auditing over 460 accounts a year, representing hundreds of billions of pounds and a whole range of organisations, including all central government departments. You will audit the accounts but also aim to help the organisation improve the way it does business. It’s hard to imagine a more varied, complex and high profile group of clients.
Our scheme takes you right through to qualification as a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). It’s a very successful scheme which is designed to give you the best chance of qualifying as well as a great foundation for your career. Our pass rate track record is first class. Once you qualify you will be offered a permanent position as an Audit Principal.
So what do we offer?
We know that pay and benefits are important, so we have put in place a very competitive package:
A competitive starting salary with guaranteed increases each year, on passing each stage of your professional exams, and a significant increase on qualification – up-to-date details are available on our website: big-on.org.uk.
A very attractive and secure pension scheme
25 weeks of study leave over the 3 year programme
Annual leave entitlement of 20 days, increasing to 25 days on training completion and 30 days after 5 years service.
Payment of professional subscriptions, gym membership, interest free season ticket loan, free group life insurance and travel insurance, childcare vouchers and free health checks.
So who are we looking for?
Our scheme is open to graduates from any degree discipline. You will need to have attained at least 300 UCAS points (or equivalent) and have, or expect to achieve, a 2.1 degree or better in any subject. You will also need to have strong analytical skills combined with the ability to work with others and to present and influence with impact and passion. You will be excited about what the National Audit Office is all about, and you’ll have the ‘get up and go’ to achieve results in a highly professional environment.
However, if there are extenuating circumstances which may have affected your grades or other aspects of your academic performance, please state this clearly on the form under the disability section and/ or contact EmployAbility to discuss.
