Following the success of 2006’s event, Blind in Business is delighted to invite you to Speed Recruitment, a unique diversity recruitment event, to be held on Thursday 20th November 2008 at the Offices of Citigroup, Canary Wharf, from 12 – 5PM

Speed Recruitment is based on the popular idea of Speed Dating where unattached people have a series of short, one-on-one dates, over the course of an evening in a safe environment. Blind in Business has now applied this idea to Diversity Recruitment, where you will have the opportunity to meet graduate recruiters in a series of 10-minute ‘taster’ interviews. Should you be interested in any of these firms, we can share contact details on the day. Firms attending this year’s event are

- KPMG
- Simmons and Simmons
- Citigroup - Accenture
- Merrill Lynch
- RWEnpower
- Allen and Overy
- Herbert Smith
- Ernst and Young
- Acumen Solutions
- HSBC

The result is a unique event, which will introduce you to great firms, raise confidence and allow you to learn more about the job marker – which is essential in these uncertain times for recruitment.

If you are interested in attending this event, please contact Andy Flack by October 29th 2008 Andy Flack:Andy@blindinbusiness.org.uk 020 7588 1885.

InvestAbility 2007 was hosted on day one by ABN AMRO an investment bank in the City, and on day two at Morgan Stanley offices in Canary Wharf.

97 disabled students and recent graduates participated in this two day event to learn about the divisions and range of career opportunities available within these top investment banks, and their commitment to disability and diversity. Feedback from the delegates has been very positive, ‘I would just like to say a big thank you. I and all the delegates that I spoke to got a huge amount out of InvestAbility. It was great to have so much exposure to the various banks’ representatives. I certainly made some good contacts and gained an invaluable insight into the industry’.

The event came about as the result of the collaboration between the Interbank Graduate Diversity Recruiters Forum and the disability organisation, EmployAbility. The Interbank Graduate Diversity Recruiters Forum is made up of some of the top global investment banks working together as an industry to attract talent from the widest possible pool.

EmployAbility is the not-for-profit organisation dedicated to assisting people with all disabilities into employment. They work primarily with disabled undergraduates and graduates to ease the transition from education to employment, supporting and advising these candidates and their employers throughout the entire recruitment process and beyond. EmployAbility also work with employers to break down barriers to entry for disabled people, thereby helping employers become more ‘disability inclusive’.

Photographs of the event will follow shortly ...

INVESTMENT BANKING - InvestAbility
2006

InvestAbility, an exciting recruitment event specifically for disabled students/graduates interested in career opportunities in the investment banking industry (and their university careers/ disability officers), took place on Wednesday, November 1st 2006 at Cabot Hall, Cabot Square, Docklands.

The event was organized by EmployAbility (the not-for-profit organization specializing in disability and employment) in partnership with six of the top Investment Banks, including ABN Amro, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Barclays Capital, the Royal Bank of Scotland and UBS. Its purpose was to give attending delegates invaluable information about how to successfully apply for internship and graduate opportunities in all divisions of investment banking.

Attendees had an opportunity to:

  • Meet and gather information on career opportunities from recruiters from the participating banks
  • Find out about career opportunities in the various divisions; Technology, Finance, HR, Operations, Investment Management, Investment Banking and various Front Office divisions
  • Receive valuable CV and interview advice direct from the recruiters
  • Network with staff currently working for the participating banks in order to get honest answers to all of their questions about things like the firm, the culture and the hours!

It was indeed an opportunity not to be missed - and all who attended found it useful and informative.

If you are interested in a career in Investment Banking but were unable to attend the event, don't worry. But, do:

  • Contact our experienced team at EmployAbility to talk through the application processes and any other information or support you require. We will work closely with you to ensure that your application has a good chance of succeeding and will guide you through the different processes.
  • Regularly check our website for other such events (there will be more!) and specific Summer Internships that we are running with Investment Banks and other organizations, and other training workshops.

To all those from across the country who did attend, thank you for you interest - we gather, from your feedback, that it was well worthwhile.

EmployAbility would like to thank ABN Amro, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Barclays Capital, the Royal Bank of Scotland and UBS and their bank representatives, for partnering with them to participate in InvestAbilitly and for helping to make it such a success. Being at hand to meet delegates and answer their questions was a vital component of the event. And, a special thank you to those bank representatives who ran informative presentations on the day.
